JOB PROFILE: Senior Accountant

 

JOB SUMMARY

Work with a team of accounting professionals to prepare tax returns, financial statements and other client deliverables. Possess the ability to complete engagements from start to finish with minimal supervision. Be responsible for maintaining client relations through ongoing support, including general ledger, balance sheet and financial statement entries and reconciliations; payroll, year-end financial statements and tax preparation. Familiarity with laws and regulations that apply to an accounting function are required to ensure compliance. Monitor and delegate work to other staff members.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

The Senior Accountant performs a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain Quickbooks for various clients, including check disbursements, deposits, and payroll information.

  • Prepare bank reconciliations, client cash adjustments, all journal entries required for an adjusted trial balance.

  • Prepare quarterly and annual payroll reports for a small number of clients.

  • Identify and analyze financial transactions and events for users who must make economic or business decisions.

  • Record, classify, and summarize financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, including more complex disclosures.

  • Apply a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.

  • Prepare support for all balance sheet accounts and various income statement accounts.

  • Provide guidance to the client to assist them in preparing for audits or other engagements.

  • Prepare complex individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns and begin to identify potential tax issues.

  • Prepare Personal Property Returns (Various States).

  • Client interactions to resolve issues.

  • Start to establish own client relationships.

  • Perform more complex tax planning assignments and tax projections.

  • Train and assist staff and clients with software usage.

  • Identify and develop inefficiencies on specific engagements.

  • Responsible for budgets assigned to jobs.

  • Responsible for reviewing logs to make sure reports are filed timely.

  • Prepare extensions of time.

  • Start to be responsible for client billings and collections.

  • Develop and apply research techniques and firm resource materials.

  • Assist supervisor with identifying management letter issues.

  • Attend networking events to further personal and professional growth.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

Professional Designation

  • Certified Public Accountant

Proficiency in the use of computer programs for:

  • Accounting, including Quickbooks

  • Microsoft Office Applications

  • Tax preparation

  • Tax and accounting research

EXPERIENCE

Two to three years progressively responsible related experience required. Additional education or certification may be substituted for some experience. Knowledge in the use of financial software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing required.
